Still - we have Lisbon (Part 4)

When Bruno returned with Garcia, the small figure lay unmoving on the floor. Cocking an eyebrow, he stated matter-of-factly, "New Recruit?"

The men cleared their throats and grunted in agreement. Two wooden crates held the pieces of the still and Peitro was busy stuffing in extra interesting piping and bits on top - 'just in case'. A black cat leapt on top of one of the boxes and refused to be evicted, hissing and spitting each time Peitro came near her.

"Well come aboard too then, you evil wench. Just be quiet until we set sail" he complained.

Fielden ordered, "Bruno – you can take our new shipmate aboard. He may need hiding in your cabin until we are underway. Peitro and Calisto – you're in charge of the cases. Put them in Bruno's cabin too. Then go to the markets to buy as much fruit and root vegetables as you can lay your hands on."

"What?" they asked in unison.

Sighing heavily he said slowly, "You know –vegetables that grow in the ground – like swedes or beets or some sort of fruit - anything that has a little sweetness."

Looking confused Calisto asked "Isn't that Pablo's job?"

"Not for this," replied Fielden. "We'll need them to make our rum. If anyone asks – they're for Jose. I am sure he'd be delighted we are taking an interest in fresh produce."

Garcia snorted. "When's the last time we had fresh anything to eat on board?"

"And what will you and Garcia be doing?" asked Calisto picking up one of the crates and narrowly avoiding a clawed swipe of the inhabitant.

Fielden grinned. "Distracting and Deterring our friends and making good our escape, the La Gongoozler way." He slapped Garcia on the chest and motioned him to follow him.
